The school collects offerings during its weekly Chapel Service and donates them to Eastchester Community Action Program, a local agency in Tuckahoe providing food and other essentials to local families in need; Sacred Heart Soup Kitchen; and Furniture Sharehouse, which provides free furniture to economically disadvantaged individuals and families living in Westchester. Tuckahoe Schools Net $75,000 In Grants For Student Performance

Tuckahoe High School officials received word that the district has been awarded nearly $100,000 in grant funding after being designated as Reward School by the New York State Education Department in consecutive years. Junior League Of Bronxville Raises Money For The Hungry In Mount Vernon

The Junior League of Bronxville raised nearly $20,000 to help support some of Westchester County's most impoverished, hungry families at their annual Touch-a-Truck event. Nearly 1,400 people took the trek to the Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe, where they raised $18,000 that will be used to alleviate hunger and promote proper nutrition in Eastchester, Mount Vernon and Yonkers.

Scarsdale To Begin Introducing LED Streetlights

Following months of research, study and discussion internally and with the public, Scarsdale is officially committing to going greener as they introduce the LED Streetlight Pilot Project Earlier this year, the Scarsdale Board of Trustees established a committee to research Light Emitting Diode streetlights, which will improve visibility on streets at night, reduce costs to the village and taxpayers for electricity-related costs, limit the amount of local maintenance required and conserve energy. This week, after the committee met with various vendors and evaluated similar LED streetlights that have been recently installed in neighboring communities such as Tuckahoe and Bronxville, the committee launched its two-stage pilot program.

Eastchester 350th Anniversary Committee Digitizes Local Newspaper Pages

Although it's now been 351 years since Eastchester was founded, volunteers with the town's 350th Anniversary Steering Committee recently celebrated the beginning of the digitization of more than a century of local weekly newspapers as a "final gift." The steering committee is preserving much of Eastchester, Tuckahoe and Bronxville's histories in digital form, spending months digitizing copies of local literature, which will soon be accessible and searchable by anyone with a working Internet connection.

The proposal that would bring a Subway chain restaurant to Main Street in Tuckahoe is coming under fire, as residents continue circulating petitions condemning the idea of a "fast casual" establishment in the quaint village. Citing a high volume of foot traffic from local businesses and commuters, developers with the popular sandwich franchise came to village officials with an aggressive proposal to set up shop in an empty storefront at 73 Main St. In 2013, the Town of Eastchester passed an amendment to their zoning code that prohibits "fast, casual" eateries, including a ban of all chain restaurants, claiming that it "cheapened" the look of the business area.

Tuckahoe Village Officials Mull Main Street Subway Franchise Proposal

EASTCHESTER, N.Y. Some big city folk might be trying to elbow their way into small town Tuckahoe, as developers push to fill a vacant storefront at 73 Main Street with a Subway sandwiches franchise. It's still early in the process, but developers with the project recently appealed to the Tuckahoe Zoning Board, seeking a parking variance that would require just four spaces outside of the restaurant, citing that they sought the foot traffic of commuters and local employees, not hungry diners travelling from out of town.

Tuckahoe and Ardsley Land on State 'Fiscal Stress' List

The villages of Tuckahoe and Ardsley are currently under "significant" and "moderate" fiscal stress , respectively, according to a new report released Monday by state Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli. The two are the only communities in Westchester County to make the list, which in total names 22 municipalities around the state that are in various degrees of fiscal stress.
