Junior League Of Bronxville Raises Money For The Hungry In Mount Vernon

The Junior League of Bronxville raised nearly $20,000 to help support some of Westchester County's most impoverished, hungry families at their annual Touch-a-Truck event. Nearly 1,400 people took the trek to the Immaculate Conception School in Tuckahoe, where they raised $18,000 that will be used to alleviate hunger and promote proper nutrition in Eastchester, Mount Vernon and Yonkers.

Eastchester Community Fund Launches Campaign For 2016

The Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe Inc. has launched its 2016 campaign to raise funds for the 20-plus nonprofit social service agencies and community programs that rely on grants made directly from The Community Fund. Doug Meyer, president of the board, said, "This is a special time of year for everyone involved with The Community Fund, as it shows the collective caring and generosity of our community.

Man Struck and Killed by Metro-North Train in Tuckahoe

A man was struck and killed by a Metro-North train along the tracks in Tuckahoe Friday morning, according to the railroad. The Journal News reports the incident occurred just before 8:30 a.m. No other injuries were reported, and authorities are investigating what the man was doing on the tracks.

Tuckahoe Residents To Get Chance To Discuss Potential Hotel Development

After months of debate regarding the construction of the oft-discussed hotel project on Marbledale Road in Tuckahoe, locals will soon have their first opportunity to speak out at a public Planning Board meeting. Next week, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, the board is scheduled to open a public discussion regarding the potential Marriot Hotel at 109 Marbledale Road after the subject was adjourned when pollutants were found at the location, which was once an old quarry site.

Scarsdale To Begin Introducing LED Streetlights

Following months of research, study and discussion internally and with the public, Scarsdale is officially committing to going greener as they introduce the LED Streetlight Pilot Project Earlier this year, the Scarsdale Board of Trustees established a committee to research Light Emitting Diode streetlights, which will improve visibility on streets at night, reduce costs to the village and taxpayers for electricity-related costs, limit the amount of local maintenance required and conserve energy. This week, after the committee met with various vendors and evaluated similar LED streetlights that have been recently installed in neighboring communities such as Tuckahoe and Bronxville, the committee launched its two-stage pilot program.

Free Flu Shots Offered In Eastchester, Bronxville, Tuckahoe

Free flu shots for anyone over 19 will be available in two locations in the coming weeks: Tuckahoe, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the Tuckahoe Community Center, 71 Columbus Avenue. The vaccine is being offered by New York-Presbyterian/Lawrence Hospital and the Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester and Tuckahoe.
